Summary & Review

Let me start by saying my 5 year old saw me put in my earbuds and asked, “Are you listening to a book?”. I said yeah and she asks, “What’s it called?” So I read the title and her response was, “Is it a dangerous one?” And I LOST it. 😂 Then immediately texted Ronni, of course.

Please be warned: This book is a dangerous one. 😈

On a more serious note, it does have a lot of heavier/darker themes, so definitely check the content warnings.

First things first – the main characters’ names are Xeraphine and Kairhyse. The spelling makes them look a bit difficult, but hearing them on the audio version? They pronounce them beautifully and I actually really love both names. Plus, they seem to fit the characters well (don’t ask me what that means. Sometimes things just fit, alright?).

Xeraphine is a goddess. Not literally – she’s actually a succubus. But her strength and resilience? God-like, for real. She suffered horrible things and came out seeking revenge. She didn’t cower or hide away. Oh no. She wants to fight back and hurt everyone who made her suffer. I absolutely love that about her. Plus, she’s so damn confident. I mean, I get she’s a sexy succubus, but she thought she was human/mundane for the first part of her life so that confidence had to be learned. I absolutely adore her character. Plus, I relate. I’m also a succubus.

Kidding. I’m obviously not cool enough. But for real, she doesn’t tell people she loves them and neither do I (aside from my kids and husband and that wasn’t an easy feat). Her reasons are vastly different, but I can truly appreciate the trauma and flawed character she is because bits of it are reflected in myself.

Not that I meant to get emotional or whatever. Yuck.

Next is Kairhyse, a vampire who is expected to find a demon responsible for several murders. Only, once he finds her, he doesn’t turn her in. Instead, he stalks her and gets a bit obsessed. Oh and his 🍆 is 11 inches. Yes, ELEVEN. Absolutely insane. I had to let Ronni know about that because good grief, that’s wild. 😂 But I digress.

Seriously, though – pull out a ruler. 11 inches in completely incomprehensible for us mere mortals. I can’t move past this, but I also love it because if you’ve read the book (or listened to it), you know that Xera being a succubus makes her the perfect match for him. I truly love when characters provide a beautiful balance and show they’re made for each other.

Oh and emotionally damaged Xera has a rainbow, butterfly bestie (yes, it makes sense if you read it and no, she’s not actually a butterfly) who is the sweetest, most understanding individual ever. She accepts people as they are and her kindness always makes a huge impact on those around her – even the psychotic ones. I love that both main characters end up adoring her and wanting to take care of her.

This story is tense and wild and fun, in a psychotic, unhinged sort of way. Everyone is morally grey and I love it!

And the narrators? 🥵 Wow. I mention James Cassidy on many posts because I’m a huge fan. He’s so talented and amazing. He can do any scene and make it perfect. I have never listened to a book narrated by James Cassidy and been disappointed. So take that as you will.

And Savannah Thomas? Whoa. She’s like my female version of James Cassidy (and that’s a high honor I’ve never bestowed upon anyone). She’s truly phenomenal. I mean, she can act out any scene, making it realistic and exceptional. She can play any part – innocent and sweet, sexy and intense, literally anything. What a talented person. 🖤

So yeah, if this book isn’t on your radar, please fix that. You don’t want to miss out on this brilliant work of fiction!
