Simone St. James has done it again! Okay, maybe I’m just biased because The Sun Down Motel is one of my favorite books ever but sue me!!! (Please don’t sue me, I don’t have any money)

A Box Full of Darkness is set in Fell, New York, the same place as The Sun Down Motel. I thought this was neat, especially since I loved The Sun Down Motel so much! Fell is a strange place with lots of strange happenings and I’m hoping we get to see more of them in future books. The Esmie household is no exception to these strange happenings. Violet, Vail, and Dodie Esmie grew up in Fell, New York, living with their not-so-great parents and their little brother, Ben.

When Ben is six, they are playing hide-and-seek with him when he suddenly vanishes. They never discover what happens to him and the search goes cold. Decades later, the three are called home by Ben, who needs them to find him.

Each sibling returns, their haunted visions returning with them. Strange things happen in the house and it’s up to them to stop it all and find Ben.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and St. James’ writing. She is a master, in my opinion, when it comes to paranormal suspense. I think I love that she always ties in some criminal/ thriller aspect. Thrillers are my favorite and that definitely keeps my attention.

I will say that I wish more had been discussed regarding Vail’s job investigating alien sightings, but I understand why it wasn’t. I also really enjoyed that she tied up the ending with a nice, happy little bow. As I told Shayna when I finished, this is a set of characters I will be thinking about for a while and wondering what they’re up to.
