Summary & Review
Anatomy of an Alibi follows Aubrey, Ben, Camille, and Hank prior to, during, and after the murder of Ben. This story jumps back and forth a lot, showing how characters met, what secrets they’re protecting, and what they’re trying to uncover.
Ben and Camille are married and it seems like an ideal relationship until Camille begins to believe that Ben is hiding something from her which ultimately leads her to Aubrey. Together they plan to expose whatever secret Ben is keeping and determine how to get Camille out of the marriage while still keeping her financial freedom. So she’s an obvious suspect in his murder.
Ben and Hank are business partners at their shared law firm. We learn a bit about how they met and joined forces, as well as whether one or both of them are willing to get their hands dirty to win their cases. Prior to Ben’s death, he was planning to dissolve the partnership, making Hank a pretty obvious person of interest as well.
Ben and Aubrey have never met, or have they? I won’t tell you what links these two together because it’s a pretty large part of the story later on.
While this story slowly unravels the connections between the characters and we ultimately learn what happened to Ben, there are plenty of twists and unexpected plot points that I really enjoyed. I nearly dropped this to 3 stars just because the constant jumping back and forth in time was difficult to follow at times because we were also juggling multiple POVs from various characters.
But ultimately, I kept it at 4 stars because I love how it progressed. I love that every time I learned a new secret I thought I had figured out who murdered Ben and why. Until the author threw in another twist or unveiled another secret. I truly enjoyed not being able to guess it.
This was a fun read and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves a good murder mystery/ thriller with an ending you don’t see coming.
