Summary & Review

Um, okay. Wow. I was intrigued by the premise and narrators, but I’m so blown away right now. I think I might have to do an immediate re-read because I’m not quite ready to move on.

First off – Lucy Rivers and Corvin King are wonderful narrators. I’m sure many of you have already heard of them and there’s a reason for that – they’re fantastic! That said, Corvin King with an Irish accent? That’s a whole new level. 🥵 I love an Irish accent, though, and with his deep voice, it was just incredibly pleasing to the ears. What a wonderful cast for this story.

Next – L.J. Shen. I’ve seen the name and am aware this author is pretty popular, however I’d never had the pleasure of experiencing her stories before this. And I think I’ve been missing out. 😅 Wow. Wonderful writing, complex and flawed characters, and an interesting plot? Sign me up for all future books!

Whew, okay. Now for a summary for those of you who are curious, or may have forgotten. Bad Bishop follows Lila and Tiernan. Lila is part of a mafia family and her mother had convinced her long ago to pretend she is simple-minded so that she can avoid being married off to an awful man. But Lila is actually super intelligent – just deaf. She ends up in a terrible situation after she was assaulted and now bears an unexpected child. This is unacceptable for her father, and he chooses to marry her off to save face.

Enter Tiernan. A monster, some would say. A psycho. An asshole. He doesn’t want her, but he does want access and alliances that will help him further his own goals. So he accepts the offer and marries Lila. Little does he know she will be his undoing. And don’t we all love an unhinged man who’s only soft for one person? No? Huh. Well I do and this gave me everything I wanted.

The writing was beautiful and the plot was suspenseful and intriguing. The narrators brought this whole thing to life and made the characters real. I loved everything about this story. I actually just purchased book number 2 in the series, Twisted Pawn, and I cannot wait to dive into that audiobook! That one follows Lila’s brother, Achilles, and Tiernan’s sister, Tierney.

*Slight* Spoiler

I just wanted to give a warning, in case you really have no idea where this story is headed. But when Tiernan gets Lila hearing aids and says, “I love you. I wanted that to be the first thing you ever heard.”? Um, swoon. 🖤 A psychotic asshole who cares about no one but himself gives a thoughtful gift like this to the woman he didn’t even care for when they got married? Damn. Thank you for that.

That is all.
