Drowning in Paper Flowers, by E.L. Westbury

I don’t even know how to recap this one, for real. It’s absurd and chaotic, but still fun.

So basically, there’s two sides to every story, right? One side: Ruby has a perfect life in a beautiful home as a loving wife and mother. The other side: Ruby isn’t all she’s cracked up to be and despises her life.

Everything you think you know in this story is honestly a potential lie. Don’t hold onto any theory too closely because you might just learn you had no idea what was happening the entire time.

Summary & Review

Uh, this book was…a lot. Not necessarily in a bad way. I mean, I rated it 4 stars. I thought the writing was well done and the plot was interesting. Things were constantly happening that kept the story moving forward, sideways, and upside down.

But I don’t know. It kinda felt like there were too many twists and things happening at times. Almost like the author had 18 book ideas and decided to throw them all into 1 story.

For people who like that, this book is definitely for you! I prefer my books to be a bit more realistic because that’s what makes the psychological stuff hit harder, in my opinion. If I can imagine the situation actually happening, it’s more intense for me as a reader. I just couldn’t quite do that with this story because there was just too much all the time.

When I was explaining the main plot points to my mom after reading, she legitimately thought I was talking about an entire series. lol. She goes “Wait, that was all in ONE book?” 😂

Anyway, I do like how this author writes and I’m interested to see what other works they have/will work on. But I kinda hope they’re not all quite so…much.
