Summary & Review
I initially read the ebook, available on Kindle Unlimited, in April 2025. With book 3 coming out soon, I wanted to do a re-read so the details would be fresh in my mind, but I decided to try the audiobook instead. I was sold when I saw the narrators. 🖤 I truly believe the story was so much better via audio because the narrators did such a fantastic job. Paired with the author’s writing, this was quite the enjoyable experience!
This story follows Princess Aurora (Rory), who attends a cage fight with her soon-to-be husband, Sebastian. He captures wolves and forces them to fight each other for entertainment. For this particular fight, there’s a large man, likely an alpha, and a younger boy that are supposed to fight to the death. Rory intervenes, which is a turning point that drastically alters her life.
The wolves who fight are kept locked up in the kennels, but later that night they’re freed and Rory wakes to shouting and chaos in the castle. She’s taken by the alpha, who we learn is Callum.
Without spoiling, there are many interesting and awful characters that we encounter and dealings with kings, lords, and jerks who all want to use Rory for their own reason and/or bargaining chip. Rory is fighting for her freedom and in the process, discovering more about herself and her own wants. She doesn’t want to be a pawn in the games these men are playing, and she’ll do whatever she can to forge her own path.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. I love so many of the characters and the writing kept me interested the entire time. The narrators brought to life some wonderfully written characters and it was just a fun experience. 😊
I will add that I did find it a bit weird that while Shane East narrated Callum’s part, that was ALL he narrated. Zara Hampton-Brown did the male voices for everyone else. So while this is technically a duet-style narration, it didn’t totally feel that way. Don’t get me wrong, it was still very well done and didn’t negatively impact the story for me at all, but it just seemed like an odd way to do it. 🤷♀️
