Summary & Review
I absolutely adored this book. This was my first book by B.K. Borison and as soon as I finished it, I went and put all her other books on hold on Libby. Clearly they’re super popular because the wait for most of them was several months long.
First-Time Caller is a romantic comedy, apparently inspired by Sleepless in Seattle which I’ve never seen but have now been inspired to add to my to-be-watched list. This book follows the lives of Aiden and Lucie. Aiden is the host of a radio show all about love, though he doesn’t believe in love himself. He’s had an emotional past that’s caused him to pull away and keep his distance from everyone, ensuring he keeps himself away from potential heartbreak. Lucie is a mother to a 12 year old, Maya, and has a wonderful friendship with Maya’s father, her ex. They co-parent well and do everything they can to make sure their daughter is happy and taken care of.
But Lucie is lonely. She doesn’t date and hasn’t even tried in a long time. She thought she was doing fine, content with life, until her daughter proved her wrong.
That 12 year old rascal called the radio show, concerned about her mother and wanting her to get out there and date so she’ll be happy. Lucie, thinking this was a one-time deal and being told there were very few listeners during this night show, breaks down and gives her honest opinion about finding a love that’s magical.
The radio show’s listeners and ratings soar. Everyone loves Lucie and want her to find the happy ending she deserves. So she’s convinced to join the show a few days a week and go on dates with some of the men who call in. All the while, she and Aiden are getting closer.
This was such a cute book and the banter was humorous and delightful. I’m so excited to read the next book in the series, “And Now, Back to You”, as soon as it becomes available on Libby! š¤
