Summary & Review
Well. I loved book 1, The Serpent and The Wolf. But unfortunately, I didn’t love this one. I mean…it was okay?
It’s still highly rated, so maybe I was the odd one out? I’m not sure. But this one really fell flat for me, personally.
Though, to be fair, one thing I absolutely LOVED about the first book was that the banter was š„ and the chemistry was just as wonderful. There was an abundance of my favorite trope: yearning/longing.
And this book just didn’t have that. There wasn’t any good banter or longing/yearning or really anything I loved about the first book.
I honestly could be convinced that this book was written by an entirely different author. š¤·š»āāļø
I’m not even really sure what to say. This book still followed Vassa and Reid, but they were separated for half of it and both were experiencing their own situations. Reid got close with some pirates; Vassa is learning more about Ozik and is forced to find another potential suitor for marriage.
I did enjoy some of the twists at the end, though I really felt like there was no reason to keep some of those facts hidden so long. If Ozik had been up front, Vassa would’ve handled things vastly differently, and we could’ve gotten more story that we’ll likely get in the next book. It felt unnecessarily drawn out.
I will try to read the next book, but I’m not as thrilled as I was. Book 1 was 5 stars, easily. This one was 3, so now I’m concerned that I may not enjoy the next one much. But maybe this will be the worst of the series?
